Between the Peloponnese and Attica is the area of Saronic Gulf, one of the most famous and open bays for sailing in Greece. Its proximity to Athens facilitates its access by sailing boat from the Marina of Alimos.
Historic cities developed on the shores of the Saronic Gulf, such as Athens, Piraeus, e.t.c. as well as ancient sanctuaries, such as in Sounio, Aegina etc. The bay is closed and is bordered by the imaginary line Poros-Sounio. To the south it communicates with the open Aegean Sea.
